What It Takes To Win

I will start with a quote I heard: "The magic you are looking for is in the work you are avoiding." This means the happiness you always wanted in life is just lying there behind the things you fear the most. Everyone has the dream to be a successful entrepreneur, writer, actor, and many more (choose your dream), but why do only a few of us even try or put in the work?

I'm not saying to go out and start a business and risk it all. Be honest and answer this simple question: Say you wanted to be a successful entrepreneur like Elon Musk, but just think—have you ever seen a single video on how to begin a startup? If your answer is no, then that’s what I meant by the quote. It’s often hard to take the first step because of our fear of failure. We are human beings, and it is natural to have a fear of failure. Therefore, only a few jump out of their comfort zones, and only a few are successful in their lives.

Being successful doesn’t only mean having money. You could sell drugs and make money too. So what is being successful if it’s not just about money? Success is a matter of perspective, meaning it’s different for everyone. If you haven’t figured out what you really want in life other than money, then you are nowhere near the starting line. Life is a marathon, not a sprint.

From my experience of running a 10km race, I came across different types of runners, and everyone wanted to win. Some ran as fast as they could at the start, overtaking everyone, including me, which made me uncomfortable. But later, after 2-3 kilometres, they were exhausted, and I, maintaining a constant pace, just passed by them. So it doesn’t matter if you scored poorly or your friends had top marks. What matters is if you can maintain a constant pace of effort, getting better by 1% every day. That’s enough because those who won the race weren’t the ones who were first in the beginning round. If you have reached this far, I can say you are a person who wants to be better and that's all you need to win.
